Microneedling has quickly become one of the most popular aesthetic treatments as of late. What makes microneedling so desirable in the skincare industry is the fact that it is a treatment that can work for so many different people as it addresses so many different skin issues and concerns. Did you know that there are different types of microneedling? There is traditional or regular microneedling as well as RF or radiofrequency microneedling. So, what’s the difference between them and is one better than the other? Let’s talk about it!
The Difference Between Regular and RF
The difference between traditional microneedling and adding RF, like with our Secret RF™ by Cutera treatment, is the introduction of the radiofrequency energy to the treatment! Both treatments consist of the standard microneedling procedure which involves a device that creates tiny, microinjuries on the face and sometimes neck, chest or body. These microinjuries stimulate the skin’s natural healing process, activating collagen and elastin production which helps relieve the skin of:
- Scarring
- Fine lines + wrinkles
- Enlarged pores
- Hyperpigmentation
- Uneven texture
RF Microneedling involves the same traditional process but also contains a component of radiofrequency in the treatment. RF microneedling works to achieve the increased results that regular microneedling cannot provide, the RF is FDA cleared to tighten skin, more drastically than traditional micro-needling.
Is One Better Than the Other?
Although regular and RF microneedling can give you similar results, it just depends on how you’d like to achieve those results. Regular microneedling is more of a “low and slow” rejuvenation process, slightly less intense on the skin but requires many treatments to give optimal results slowly over time. RF Microneedling tends to work much faster, with more dramatic results than regular microneedling, however, it can require a day or two of downtime more than regular microneedling, depending on the person.
The inclusion of RF energy in the microneedling treatment helps by stimulating more collagen and elastin production in the skin, giving faster results. RF microneedling may also be more effective and a better choice for someone with severe skin scarring or very deep-set lines and wrinkles as the radiofrequency heat energy is able to penetrate deeper into the skin for those serious skin issues.
While both traditional microneedling and RF microneedling are excellent and effective treatments, Front Door Medspa only offers RF microneedling because the results are much more dramatic with little downtime. Dayspas may offer regular microneedling.
